Today, I turn my thoughts to the Nation of Israel as they celebrate 60 years as a restored people in the land of their inheritance. It was on this day, May 14, 1948, that Israel proclaimed independence from the surrounding Arab nations.
They have had to fight hard to keep it ever since…
“On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram and said, "To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates..." ~ Genesis 15:18
“God said to him, ‘Your name is Jacob, but you will no longer be called Jacob; your name will be Israel.’ So he named him Israel. And God said to him, ‘I am God Almighty; be fruitful and increase in number. A nation and a community of nations will come from you, and kings will come from your body. The land I gave to Abraham and Isaac I also give to you, and I will give this land to your descendants after you.’" ~ Genesis 35:10-12
"This is the land of which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, 'I will give it to your offspring'" ~ Deuteronomy 34:4
"I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you." ~ Genesis 12:3
May our GOD richly bless the faithful sons and daughters of Abraham forever and ever.
