Over the weekend I finished a book by Erwin McManus titled, "The Barbarian Way".
This is a small book that I simply can not recommend enough.
It was loaned to me after a men's retreat in February and I only just got around to finishing it.
Something in me didn't want to read it.
Now that I have finally digested it, I understand why the "old man" wanted it shelved for so long.
Mr. McManus has succinctly written what I have been feeling for several years now. The "Christian Religion" that most people are familiar with today is NOT what the book of Acts is describing to us in the Bible. There are precious few examples of "first generation" disciples of Christ moving and working in the world.
It is not enough to say I am a believer, if I do not exercise my faith today.
It is not enough to pray for people and then pass them by without at least trying to show them how much God loves them.
It is not enough to live, and work, and acquire things...and insist that God keep me within my comfort zone.
Jesus was NOT safe. His disciples learned to risk it all to serve Him...and most gladly did.
The Greek word for "witness" can also be translated "martyr". Is anyone reading this willing to be a martyr?
For what cause would you be willing to lay down your life today?
I can not shake the imagery from my head. Thank you Erwin for sharing the message God has given you.
I wholeheartedly join the crash.
"The person who tries to preserve his life will lose it, but the person who loses his life for me will preserve it."
~ Matthew 10:39
