To my Beloved...

For my beautiful Wife...

"Two leaves drifting in a stream
Brought together long ago.
Varied in their shades of green,
What holds their ruffled edges so?

When one was sent upon its way
It had no mind of what would come.
No formal greeting; a normal day
When these two leaves would sail as one.

The two were not the same and yet
They learned to love the way they were.
Entwined they drift upon the wet
And travel toward an unseen shore.

These waters have not always moved
With such grace and wistful tones.
There were days when storms did come
And dulled each sparkling gleam that shone.

One day they may be parted by
Winds, or time, or besetting other.
Perhaps one leaf will waste away
to settle underneath the water.

While this passage is a short one
The time we drift is such well spent.
Our ripples left upon the surface
will show others how our travels went.

And if we pass before the stream
Has made its winding way to sea
Then let our time together leave
A lasting, loving, legacy."

"So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate."
~ Matthew 19:6

I love you, Laura.
Not because I have to...because I choose to.
